Originally, Poke is a Hawaiian snack made from fine cuts of fish. Poke is the Hawaiian word meaning for “to slice or cut”. Once Californians laid their hands on the dish, they added rice, veggies and toppings with superb flavors, making it more of a proper meal, while putting their own spin to it. So now it can be either a raw fish salad, a cooked chicken bowl OR even a veggie tofu thing… In a nutshell, it’s become so much more than fish.
